RENALDO Balkman had 36 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks as San Miguel Alab Pilipinas extended its win streak in the Asean Basketball League (ABL) to seven games by defeating the CLS Knights Indonesia, 80-73, in Surabaya, Indonesia.
Justin Brownlee fell just short of a triple double with 16 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assists as Alab continued to enjoy success on the road to close in on league leaders Hong Kong Eastern and Chong Son Kung Fu.
Alab improved to 10-4 (win-loss) after its sixth away win.
With the CLS Knights threatening, Balkman scored six of Alab Pilipinas’ first eight points in the fourth quarter to give Alab the breathing room it needed, 67-60.
Alab’s lead went down to one point after a Brian Williams three-point play for the Knights, but Balkman responded with a three-point play of his own to keep the Indonesian side at bay, 74-70.
Hong Kong remains on top of the standings with a 10-2 record while Chong Son Kung Fu, which lost to Alab last week, has a 9-2 mark.
The top two spots offer an outright berth in the Final Four.
Bobby Ray Parks led the Alab supporting cast as he finished with 17 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Lawrence Domingo pulled down 12 rebounds, including nine on the offensive end.
Williams churned 24 points and 17 rebounds while Shane Edwards got 17 points for the Knights. Fil-American Keith Jensen added 12 points.
