REIGNING MVP Leo Avenido of San Miguel heads the list of Filipinos participating in the side events of the inaugural ABL Hoops Fest to be held from March 15 to 17 in Ho Chi Minh City.
Avenido sees action in the three-point shootout contest that also features two Filipino imports in Jai Reyes of the Saigon Heat and Patrick Cabahug of the Westports Malaysia Dragons.
Also competing in the three-point shootout to be held on March 16 are Lim Sheng Yu of the JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers, Mario Wuysang of defending champion Indonesia Warriors, and Wacharapong Thongsri of the Chang Thailand Slammers.
San Miguel import Gabe Freeman and Fil-Tongan Moala Tautuaa of the Westports Malaysia Dragons, meanwhile, banner the cast seeing action in the league’s first slam dunk contest.
Freeman and Tautuaa compete against Chris Daniels of the Indonesia Warriors, David Palmer of the Saigon Heat, Delvin Goh of the JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers, and Wutipong Dasom of the Chang Thailand Slammers.
The ABL Hoops Fest is a mid-season event that will not only showcase a skills challenge, but also features games involving all six teams whose outcome will reflect in the current team standings.
“This is meant to be a celebration of basketball within Asean and a real showcase of how far we’ve come and how much potential there is for the sport in the region,” said ABL CEO Anthony Macri in a statement.
The Beermen are slated to face the Slingers on March 15 and the Heat on March 17 during the three-day Hoops Fest.
