PAUL Zamar looks to make his mark in the Asean Basketball League after a stint in the Thailand league.
Months after playing for Mono Thewphaingarm in the Thailand league where he scored 52 points in a game, Zamar has been called up to play for Mono Vampire in the regional league ABL as one of its heritage imports.
Zamar was part of the 20-man pool of Mono Vampire for its campaign in the Fiba Asia Champions Cup, but was still surprised to get the callup for the coming ABL season.
"Hindi ko rin ineexpect na tatawagan ako ng Mono. Actually, nagulat na lang ako na nag-message sa akin 'yung team manager namin sa Mono Thew na papalaruin nila ako sa ABL," said Zamar.
The 5-foot-11 Zamar said he looks forward to the ABL experience of playing in a home-and-away format, a higher level of competiton, and playing in the Philippines against Tanduay Alab Pilipinas.
"Excited ako kasi lahat ng nation sa ABL makakalaro ko, including 'yung home country ko," said Zamar.
"Expect ko, grabe ang competition kasi maraming ex-PBA and mga best of the best ng bawat country ang maglalaro. I welcome the opportunity and it will be a good area for me to become a better basketball player," he said.
The 29-year-old Zamar is also hoping that his ABL stint will eventually lead to a break in the PBA.
"I'm still not giving up my PBA dreams. Hopefully, ma-replicate ko or ma-exceed ko pa 'yung pinakita ko sa TBSL and TBL (Thailand league) para makuha ko ang attention ng mga PBA teams," said Zamar, selected by Barangay Ginebra in the fourth round of the 2012 PBA Draft.
