ALAB Pilipinas head coach Mac Cuan is set to welcome a new member of his family as his wife Blenda is scheduled to give birth to a baby boy anytime soon.

Cuan said it has been happy times for him and his family as he awaits his first baby, who will be named Daro Michael, after three years of waiting. But he admits his excitement gets mixed with some anxiety.

“I’ve been waiting since I got married. First year, ayaw pa ng wife ko. After that, nagkaroon ng miscarriage. I’m blessed to have a baby boy. May basketball player na ako,” Cuan said with a smile.

“I’m excited and nervous,” the former La Salle cager added.

With the baby on the way, Cuan has been trying to meet his duties with Alab Pilipinas while also attending to his pregnant wife’s needs.

For their coming road game against the Kaohsiung Truth, for example, Cuan chose to go on a late night flight on Saturday to Taipei.

“I’m taking an 11:45 p.m. flight, arrive in Taipei at about 1 a.m. Hindi ko na hihintayin ‘yung train, I’ll take a bus for a four-hour trip to join the team as early as I can. Mawawala lang ako ng ilang hours,” he shared.

“It’s a sacrifice that I’m willing to take para andito ako, nandun ako,” Cuan added. “Concern ko lang is for the baby to be safe. Being a professional, ayoko rin na mapabayaan ‘yung team and at the same time, ayoko naman i-overlook ‘yung wife ko and ‘yung baby.”
