Kiefer Ravena hoping for NBA Summer League stint, puts PBA and ABL plans on the backburner
Trying to earn a spot in an NBA Summer League team is the top priority now for former UAAP MVP Kiefer Ravena. Jaime Campos

KIEFER Ravena hopes to make it to the NBA Summer League but is not ruling out the possibility of declaring for the PBA draft this year or re-signing with Alab Pilipinas in the ABL.

Ravena said he will return to the United States following a two-game stint with Alab Pilipinas, which exited at the semifinal stage of the Asean Basketball League.

“I still have time to think about it,” Ravena said, referring to the PBA draft. “Summer League, hopefully, I can enter that. Hopefully, I can make a decision after that.”

Ravena said he will hope to find ways to continue to work on his game while he is still in the Philippines.

“Rest first and continue working out and continue to work on my game. Hopefully, I can practice with Gilas or with PBA teams before going back to the States,” Ravena said.

Ravena had a brief stint with the ABL season, playing for Alab Pilipinas only at the start of the semifinal round against the Singapore Slingers. His last match this season came on Friday when Alab as swept by the Slingers in Game Two in Baliwag, Bulacan.

Ravena said he cherishes his short but meaningful campaign with Alab Pilipinas and is not shutting the door on a possible return to the Philippine-based squad.

“Masaya ‘yung experience. It’s something na talagang marami akong natutunan in the course of a week and a half na nakasama ko ‘yung mga teammates ko. Masarap ‘yung pakikisama ng lahat kasi one goal ang lahat.

“Hopefully, positive things came out. Hopefully also, this relationship with Alab extends. We will never know kung magkakasama uli kami. Hopefully, we can get a chance to play again,” said Ravena.

Ravena said he doesn’t regret joining the team late, which was even delayed after he sustained an injury while playing for Mighty Sports in a Dubai tournament.

“Siguro, injuries are part of our job. Nangyayari talaga. Accidents happen and it’s something that we can’t avoid. It also made me realize that you have to take care of your body, you have to take care of yourself. ‘Yun ang puhunan namin as an athlete,” said Ravena.
