DONDON Hontiveros was glad to see a familiar face during Alab Pilipinas' 84-67 victory over CLS Indonesia on Wednesday night in the Asean Basketball League (ABL) at the Caloocan Sports Complex.
The Cebuano Hotshot shared a few words with Knights import Shane Edwards, his former teammate when Hontiveros was still in the PBA playing for Alaska.
The two briefly played together in the 2016 Commissioner’s Cup when Edwards served as a stand-in import for the injured Rob Dozier. He played 10 games for the Aces, towing his squad to a 6-4 record.
Edwards, however, looked far from his dominant self in the loss, held to just 17 points by alab.
The two plans to visit their old squad if given the chance and drop by the practices of Phoenix, which is now being handled by their former assistant coach at Alaska, Louie Alas.
“Sinabi ko sa kanya na bisitahin namin yung Alaska at saka yung team ni coach Louie (Alas), yung kasama namin sa Alaska before. Hopefully makabalik siya sa PBA,” said Hontiveros.
The 40-year-old marksman came off the bench to hit two three pointers to go along with four rebounds for a depleted Alab side missing Josh Urbiztondo and Robbie Celiz before losing Renaldo Balkman to an injury in the second quarter.
