RENALDO Balkman escaped a major injury as he sustained a Grade One ankle sprain during San Miguel Alab Pilipinas' Wednesday match against CLS Knights in the Asean Basketball League.

Team owner Charlie Dy confirmed Balkman suffered the Grade One sprain, considered a mild injury, in which he landed in the foot of a CLS Knights defender.

Dy said it will now be up to Alab Pilipinas coach Jimmy Alapag on whether he will field Balkman in the crucial game on Sunday against the same team at Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

The Puerto Rican import finished with 12 points, eight rebounds, and five assists before the injury occurred.

Alab Pilipinas is in a tie with Mono Vampire Basketball Club for third place with a 13-6 record and will go all out against the Knights on Sunday for a chance for the outright semis spot.

Alab and Mono are still eyeing for semifinal berths with Chong Son Kung Fu on top with a 14-5 record with Hong Kong Eastern in second with 12-5.

The top two teams at the end of the eliminations will advance to the semifinals outright.
