JERIC Fortuna’s confidence continues to grow with the trust given him by teammates and his coach at Alab Pilipinas.
Back in the Asean Basketball League after a stint with San Miguel Beer over three years ago, Fortuna came up with his best game of the season for Alab on Friday night against the Singapore Slingers.
Fortuna a pivotal role in Alab’s victory over the Slingers, scoring 12 including a pair of crucial shots in the endgame.
The last one came at the four-minute mark off a pass by Ray Parks that gave Alab a 71-63 lead.
“Rayray (Parks) has been attacking all game long. My man helped and Ray found me. I’m just glad it went in,” said Fortuna.
Coach Mac Cuan said he is proud as Fortuna made big shots for Alab, which improved its record to 4-2 with its first win against Singapore.
“Big shots. Two big shots in the corner. Bailed us out. Credit to the pass of Ray too,” said Alab coach Mac Cuan.
The Alab mentor said he is encouraging Fortuna and the rest of his teammates not to hesitate to take open shots.
“I tell my players na every time you are open, shoot it. I’m not the type na magagalit kapag tumira sa kanila. The reason why you take extra shots before and after practice is because when in games, you are ready. But the problem is minsan, kapag open kayo, ayaw niyo itira,” Cuan said.
Fortuna hopes to continue to deliver and prove he is a dependable player. Last week against Kaohsiung, Fortuna also drilled a triple in the final seconds that sealed the win for Alab.
“Sana tuloy-tuloy lang. I’m very thankful that it went in. We needed this win,” said Fortuna.
