BRITT Reroma is taking the position as head coach of the Asean Basketball League expansion team Laskar Dreya South Sumatra this season.
The former San Beda Red Cubs head coach, according to a Spin.ph source, is set to become the second Filipino in the ABL this season to coach for a non-Philippine team, Ariel Vanguardia of the Westport Malaysia Dragons being the other.
Reroma last coached in the Philippines with the University of San Carlos high school basketball team in Cebu. He also handled the Indonesia team in the recent Seaba Under-18 Championship.
The team has yet to announce its official roster for its maiden year but a source said it intends to hire Filipino players for this season opening on July 16. Each team in the ABL is allowed to have a maximum of two imports from other Southeast Asian countries.
Laskar Dreya South Sumatra and the HiTech Bangkok City are the new teams in the ABL this season following the exit of San Miguel Beer in the regional league.
