Fil-American Jason Brickman helps Malaysia Dragons avoid going down 0-2 vs Slingers

    Mar 13, 2016

KUALA LUMPUR — Jason Brickman is glad to impress with a near triple-double performance for the Westports Malaysia Dragons in Game Two of the Asean Basketball League (ABL) finals.

Brickman, a 24-year-old Fil-American out of Long Island University, posted 13 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists in leading the Dragons to an 83-67 victory at home at the MABA Stadium.

Brickman said he was determined to help the Dragons avoid going down 0-2 in the series, especially with the next two games to be played in Singapore on Friday and next Sunday.

“It was a big game for us. We don’t want to go down 2-0. We had the lead in Game One but we didn’t finish strong in the second half. I think that was important,” said Brickman.

The San Antonio native was relieved the Dragons didn’t squander the lead this time, putting on a good defensive show by limiting Singapore to 24-of-74 shooting from the field, including a 2-of-13 clip from three-point range.

“We were up by seven at the end of the first half. We made sure we came out strong, play strong, take good care of the basketball. We did a pretty good job to get the win,” said Brickman.

As for his own performance, Brickman said there's still room for improvement.

“I thought I did okay but I had too many turnovers. But I think I did a good job in the fourth, doing the right decisions and the right plays,” said Brickman.

“This win is big. We want to make sure to win this one, then try to get one or maybe two in Singapore. We will try to get some rest, get healthy, and come back Friday in Singapore. Hopefully, we play the same way.”
