JOSHUA Munzon hinted he could be taking his act to the Philippines soon after making quite an impression in Southeast Asian basketball for several years now.
The 23-year-old Fil-American said he is already speaking to a few people about playing in the Philippines although nothing is final at the moment.
“We will see. I’ve been talking to some people, trying to work it out, work out a couple of different options, but definitely I’ll be making a move soon,” said Munzon.
Munzon played for the Saigon Heat and the Malaysia Dragons in the Asean Basketball League (ABL) where he impressed with his scoring and defense, leading the regional league in steals two seasons ago.
Last season, he was the second leading scorer for Malaysia with a 24.56-point average. He also averaged 2.22 steals, topping the team in that statistical department.
The 6-foot-4 wingman has also played in Thailand's leagues during the ABL offseason.
In the meantime, Munzon will be playing for iECO Green Warriors in the Asia League Terrific 12 later this month. The Cal State Los Angeles product saw action in a tuneup on Sunday where iECO lost to Team Pilipinas, 99-82.
“This is our first test. It wasn’t bad. Maybe we have a couple of things to work on. We are still getting used to each other but we are jelling. Maybe it will take a little bit of time but we will be alright,” said Munzon.
Munzon said it was an honor to play against the national team, even in a tune-up game.
“They are definitely a high-level group of guys. Definitely felt good out there to play against these guys and see where our matchup is with them. Definitely, it was a lot of fun playing against them.
“I just went out today, played my best effort, played as hard as I can and just see where everything felt. Like I said, I had a lot of fun today,” said Munzon.
