DONDON Hontiveros tried his hand at broadcasting on Tuesday when he served as the analyst in Tuesday’s PBA D-League game between Wangs-Letran and AMA Online Education.
The former PBA star and now Tanduay Alab Pilipinas forward in the ABL had previously called games on radio in the PBA, but admits that TV work was an altogether different experience.
Hontiveros admitted it was challenging for him to do the PBA D-League games primarily because he was still familiarizing himself with the players in the developmental league.
”Hindi ko pa kabisado ‘yung mga players pero magandang experience din na makita ‘yung mga players na aakyat,” said the 40-year old Cebuano veteran.
Hontiveros thanked his partner Chuck Araneta for also helping him do the broadcast.
“Maganda ‘yung sa radyo kasi kilala mo ‘yung mga players. Hindi naman kabado kasi nawawala ka lang minsan eh dahil hindi mo kabisado. Si Chuck naman tinutulungan ako,” he added.
Hontiveros said he was impressed by Bong Quinto and Bonbon Batiller, who combined for 34 points in the game which saw Wangs-Letran defeat AMA, 93-75.
He also mentioned AMA’s Kris Porter, who had 13 points in a losing effort.
Hontiveros said he plans do more games on TV this conference for ESPN5 even though he is still active playing for Alab. He also doesn’t mind making it a career after his playing days are over.
“Next week yata, right after pagkadating ko from Vietnam kasi may game kami sa (Jan.) 28. May time pa makapahinga. Enjoy din naman,” said Hontiveros.
