EVAN Brock's anticipated move to San Miguel fizzled out after the Beermen decided to retain imports Justin Williams and Brian Williams for the Asean Basketball League.
San Miguel coach Leo Austria confirmed to Spin.ph that the Beermen have decided not to replace their two imports when the April 7 deadline for changing reinforcements in the regional league lapsed.
Austria believed an import change at this time is no longer necessary since the two Williams have been playing well for the Beermen.
“Maganda na ‘yung chemistry noong dalawang import namin,” said Austria. “I was also advised by so many people na concerned sa team na we are asking too much and maybe okay na (‘yung mga imports).”
Brock was considered as an import for the Beermen after he became available following his release with Barako Bull in the PBA.
But the Beermen chose to stay with the Williamses, who have been a big factor in the Beermen’s recent seven-game winning streak.
Brian Williams has been with the Beermen since the start of the season while Justin Williams, tabbed by the team after getting released by Globalport in the PBA, has been making his presence felt on defense.
Austria said that he likes the competitiveness of his two imports.
“Since nag-start ‘yung campaign ng dalawang import namin, nakita ko maganda ‘yung camaraderie. Although minsan nagkakaroon ng trash-talking, napaka-healthy at pagdating sa game, seryoso sila,” said Austria.
The Beermen are currently in second place with a 10-3 record, behind the Indonesia Warriors (11-3).
