SINGAPORE — Bobby Ray Parks hopes that aside from getting a win, Alab Pilipinas would start to do some serious road bonding as they play their first game outside the country against the Singapore Slingers.

A former NBA D-League player, Parks believes road games will further strengthen bond between players and produce a better squad especially since Alab was formed just a week before the ABL season.

“Gusto ko makita kung paano ma-build ‘yung team sa pagtatravel and be ready to play,” said Parks.

The former Texas Legends guard also hopes the players would learn how to manage their time, especially on the road, noting that while building camaraderie is necessary, rest is very important.

“Kausap ko lang si Daniel (Dong Jun Lee, Alab import) kanina and sabi ko, matutulog ako as soon as umakyat ako (sa hotel).

“The best para ma-rejuvenate para ma-hydrate. You can’t overwork ’yung body,” said Parks.

How the Alab players recover will be a key for Alab Pilipinas as they had very little time to rest.

“We have a day to adjust and rest. ‘Yung adjustment mabilis kasi practice namin gabi tapos 4 p.m. ang game. We have less than 24 hours na makapahinga,” said Parks.

Parks and company goes up against the Singapore Slingers on Sunday, 4 p.m. at the OCBC Arena, looking to avenge their loss to the Slingers on opening day last month.

Parks admitted Alab Pilipinas was still groping for form during the first meeting with the Slingers, but have since improved a lot.

“First game was a barometer. I didn’t play more than 10 minutes in a year and half so hinahanap ko pa ‘yung second wind at rhythm ko sa laro. Everything seemed more forced compared to the last two games were I was more efficient and I was more in control. ‘Yung first game, gigil lahat,” said Parks.
