THOUSANDS of Hong Kong-based Filipino basketball fans went home disappointed when Alab Pilipinas struggled against home team Eastern Long Lions, but two lucky guys had a pair of reasons to smile.
Expecting to see a good game and hoping to grab a souvenir jersey, Calvin Angeles and Mykel Antonee got more when they were gifted with a pair of sneakers by Alab’s Fil-Am star Ray Parks.
The two were among thousands of HK-based Filipinos who trooped to the Southorn Stadium on Sunday expecting an Alab win, only to see an out of sorts Philippine side lose badly.
Angeles and Antonee waited for Parks outside the dugout of the Southorn Stadium and asked for Parks’ Alab playing jersey, but instead got a pair of red and black Nike Kobe 11 Elite Achilles Heel athough they failed to have them signed by the former NBA D-League player.
“Idol ko siya,” said Angeles, who is from Lucena and is now a basketball coach teaching kids in the former British colony.
Antonee, who just graduated in a Hong Kong school with a tourism and aviation management degree, said despite the loss it was good to see Alab Pilipinas, especially Parks, who now has a growing fan base in Asia.
“We really want to see him and we want to see how the pro Filipino player play in person kasi sa TV lang kami nakakanood,” said Antonee.
