BOBBY Ray Parks Jr. has made a huge impact in his first stint in the ABL that he's one of the candidates for the MVP award in a rookie season that saw him break the record for most points scored by a local.
Parks will be battling for MVP honors against Singapore's Wong Wei Long, who is seeking for his third straight individual plum, his Slingers teammate Leon Kwek, and Fong Shing Yee of the Hong Kong Eastern Long Lions.
Voting among coaches will determine the individual awards.
Parks built his case for the MVP award by scoring 380 points, breaking the record previously held by countryman Leo Avenido, who scored 312 points when he played for the San Miguel Beermen in 2012.
Incidentally, Avenido won the local MVP award in that same season.
Parks is also seeking to become the third Filipino to bag the MVP after Avenido and Asi Taulava, who won the award while playing for San Miguel Beer in 2013.
Parks was already breaking records as early as last December when he hit 8-of-8 shooting from threes, the most by a local in an ABL game.
