BOBBY Ray Parks' monster game went down the drain as a banged-up San Miguel Alab Pilipinas could not withstand the challenge of Formosa Dreamers, 79-71, in the 2019 Asean Basketball League on Sunday at Changhua County Stadium in Taiwan.
The reigning two-time ABL Local MVP went for 26 points, six rebounds and two assists for the defending champions, but even his best efforts weren't enough as they saw their two-game winning streak snapped.
Import Renaldo Balkman did not join the trip after suffering from a concussion in their game against Macau last Friday, adding him to the growing injury list for Alab which already has Lawrence Domingo (knee), Caelan Tiongson (ankle), and Brandon Rosser (knee).
Tevin Glass scored six of the final eight points for Formosa as he finished with 27 points and 12 rebounds for the home team.
Malcolm Miller added 18 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and four steals, while William Artino got 16 points and 11 rebounds as they staged a 12-4 Dreamers assault to open the fourth quarter that overturned a 62-59 deficit to a 71-66 lead with 6:50 to go.
In the end, it was the defense that gave Formosa the win as they denied Alab's rallies in the clutch.
The Dreamers became the first team to beat Alab twice this season after earlier taking the 73-72 win last Jan. 13.
Formosa also stretched its winning run to seven as it improved to 17-6 and is now only one game behind the Philippine side for the top seed.
Ethan Alvano stepped up and almost had a triple-double in the losing cause with 14 points, nine rebounds, eight assists, two steals, and two blocks, while PJ Ramos got 12 points, 10 boards, and two rejections.
San Miguel Alab Pilipinas remained at the top of the standings despite falling to an 18-5 win-loss record.
