THE San Miguel Beermen face the Sports Rev Thailand Slammers on Wednesday in what could be a playoff preview in the Asean Basketball League at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
The Beermen, sitting atop the standings with a 16-3 win-loss record, won their 13th straight victory against the Indonesia Warriors, 70-66, last Friday to clinch the No. 1 spot.
With the top spot already in the bag, San Miguel is likely to face the Slammers, who currently are in fourth spot with a 7-12 win-loss slate.
Gametime is at 4 p.m.
“They improved a lot. Maganda ang depensa nila against Singapore and they almost beat us,” said San Miguel Beer coach Leo Austria.
The last time both teams met, San Miguel was without Chris Banchero, who had injured his left quadriceps. The Beermen survived the Slammers, 78-70.
The Beermen have three elimination-round games left — two against the Slammers — and Austria hopes to finish the eliminations with a flourish and carry momentum into the best-of-five semifinals.
“We will definitely continue to push ourselves. We have to gain more momentum and confidence going into the playoffs,” Austria said.
The Slammers will also be hard-pressed to win, with Singapore breathing down their necks. The Slingers, with a 7-13 win-loss slate, are looking to seize fourth spot.
