SAN Miguel head coach Leo Austria is open to the possibility of changing imports even as the team showed it is doing just fine by recording seven straight wins in the Asean Basketball League.
Austria said that while he is already happy with their current imports in Justin Williams and Brian Williams, he is still open to recruiting a new import if it will strengthen the team, although he is leaving the decision to management.
“We have a chance to upgrade our team. But I don’t know yet, it will depend on management,” Austria said.
Teams have until Sunday, April 7, to make an import change.
The Beermen are in second place with a 10-3 win-loss record behind league leading Indonesia Warriors (11-3).
The winning streak went on in the midst of a couple of import changes, with Gabe Freeman and Matt Rogers also suiting up for the Beermen during the run.
“Look at it this way. ‘Yung seven-game winning streak, nag-start na walang import tapos papalit-palit. And now, in our last four games, intact 'yung team namin tapos dumating pa si Erik Menk. I should be happy,” said Austria.
Evan Brock is a candidate as new San Miguel import after being released by Barako Bull in the PBA recently.
Austria said that he has no knowledge about an impending change of imports.
“I don’t know yet pero as far as I’m concerned, the team is happy with the two imports,” said Austria.
“I think more of chemistry ‘yung sa akin. At kung saan masaya ang mga players. Mukha naman silang masaya. But everything is not too late, we still have (hours before the deadline),” said Austria.
