TWO Filipino coaches who steered their respective teams to the Asean Basketball League (ABL) championships will be featured in a webinar tackling their winning journey in the regional cage league.
San Miguel-Alab Pilipinas mentor Jimmy Alapag and Kuala Lumpur Dragons (formerly Westports Malaysia Dragons) counterpart Ariel Vanguardia will be the guests in ‘Sunday Learnings with Ben Ibrahim.’
The two will be joined by coach Brian Rowsom of CLS Knights Indonesia, the 2019 ABL title holder, in episode 1 entitled ‘Basketball coaching reflections of ABL champions.’
Ibrahim is a popular commentator and television presenter in Malaysia.
The webinar is set Aug. 2 at 8 p.m.
“It’s definitely an honor to be with those champion coaches,” said Vanguardia, who steered the Dragons to the title in 2016. He was likewise among the first to hold a local webinar shortly after the country was put under community quarantine following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Alapag on the other hand, led the Beermen to the championship in 2018.
The three coaches were invited to tell their stories on their way to the top.
“These guys speak quite well. And they don’t have a chip on their shoulder,” Ibrahim texted to SPIN.ph from Malaysia.
“They are also the type of people that don’t mind admitting, ‘I got it wrong.’ But they will also say ‘I got it right because it all started with a mistake.’
Ibrahim, 41, has been to the Philippines several times and is very impressed with the Filipino basketball culture.
