STA. ROSA - San Miguel Alab Pilipinas' woes continued to pile up on Sunday night as it suffered its third straight defeat at the hands of the Formosa Dreamers, 88-74, in the 2019 Asean Basketball League (ABL) at Sta. Rosa Multipurpose Complex in Laguna.
Alab was unable to find an aswer to the Formosa trio of Malcolm Miller, Tevin Glass, and Will Artino as they suffered its first home defeat of the season and surrendered the top seed to the Dreamers after falling to an 18-7 win-loss record.
The Dreamers' reinforcements frustrated the home side on the defensive end as they helped the visiting side break loose from 42-all deadlock to a 61-46 edge with 1:45 to play in the third quarter.
Miller dished out an all-around game marked by 26 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, four steals, and two blocks. Glass added 23 points, five boards, three dimes, and two steals, and Artino had a double-double of 24 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and three rejections for Formosa.
The Dreamers climbed up to the pole position with their 18-6 record, and stretched their winning streak to eight games.
More importantly, Formosa now owns the tiebreaker against Alab after winning their season series, three games to one.
Tension rose with 2:30 remaining and the Dreamers holding a 79-65 lead after Josh Urbiztondo, Caelan Tiongson, and PJ Ramos got entangled with Miller in a rebound play. Tiongson and Miller were both slapped with disqualifying fouls.
Ray Parks fired 24 points, seven rebounds, and five assists in a losing effort. Ramos dropped 22 points, nine boards, and two assists, but committed nine turnovers in his third game as the lone import for the Philippine side.
High-octane Alab import Renaldo Balkman missed the game anew after undergoing nasal reconstruction surgery, while Lawrence Domingo and Brandon Rosser continued to recover from knee injuries.
San Miguel Alab Pilipinas closes out its eliminations assignment on the road when it meets Saigon Heat on March 24 in Vietnam.
