BALIWAG, Bulacan - Alab Pilipinas' season in the Asean Basketball League (ABL) came to a disappointing end on Friday night following an 82-64 loss to the Singapore Slingers in Game Two of their semifinal series.
Fil-Am guard Josh Urbiztondo proved a thorn in the side of Alab as Singapore's heritage import made key baskets all game to help the Slingers complete a 2-0 sweep of the best-of-three series and ruin Kiefer Ravena's first game on home soil in a long while.
The former PBA guard had 20 points, five rebounds, six assists, and two steals before a huge crowd at the Baliwag Star Arena, hitting four three-pointers to send the Alab tumbling out of title contention in a league previously ruled by the Philippine Patriots and San Miguel Beer.
Urbiztondo nailed the trey and another clutch basket in a momentum-breaking third-quarter run for the Slingers after Alab came to within seven points.
Urbiztondo also scored back-to-back baskets in the fourth that put the game away for the visitors, 74-55.
Xavier Alexander had 21 points and 12 rebounds while Justin Howard also had a double-double of 18 points and 16 rebounds for the Slingers, who will face either the Hong Kong Eastern Long Lions or the Saigon Heat in the best-of-five finals.
Lawrence Domingo had 18 points and 13 rebounds, while Kiefer Ravena contributed 16 for an Alab Pilipinas that played without injured top scorer Ray Parks, Jr.
Alab fell behind, 21-12, after the Slingers went on a 10-0 run in the first period. Singapore's lead swelled to 20 following a 9-0 binge for a 43-23 lead.
The Philippine side, however, didn't go down without a fight as it came out firing in the third quarter and sliced the gap to seven points, 52-45, before Ravena's heroics.
