INSTEAD of easing off the gas pedal to give the players time to recharge, Alab Pilipinas is using the no-bearing final game of the Asean Basketball League eliminations against Kaohsiung Truth to prepare for the semifinals against the Singapore Slingers.
The Truth host Alab at the Kaohsiung Municipal Senior High School gym on Sunday.
“We will be using it to prepare for Singapore already. Playoff mindset na kami,” said Cuan.
Hong Kong is the top seed and will take on the Saigon Heat.
The Philippines-based team clinched the No. 3 spot after beating Hong Kong Eastern Long Lions, 82-75, in Davao City.
Cuan said the Kaohsiung match will be important because it plays similar to Singapore.
Also-ran Kaohsiung has been getting offensive firepower from their top shooter Wesley Hsu, who once hit eight triples in a game.
“They also have a lot of shooters so it will be a good preparation when we play Singapore, who really has a lot of players who can shoot from the outside,” said Cuan.
Kaohsiung’s Filipino imports Raymar Jose and Achie Inigo seek to close out their campaign with the Truth on a bright note.
