SAN Miguel Alab Pilipinas has obtained PJ Ramos as its import for the coming season of the Asean Basketball League, but is still hoping to get Renaldo Balkman to return to the team and become the team’s second reinforcement.
Alab coach Jimmy Alapag confirmed the 7-foot-2 Ramos will be one of the two imports of the reigning champions and he will definitely bring a lot to the table for the ABL squad.
“Definitely excited to have PJ on board,” Alapag said. “He is a dominant presence in the middle, which will give us a lot of versatility on both offense and defense. Excited he is part of the Alab family for the upcoming ABL season.”
A former player for the Washington Wizards, the Puerto Rican import played for KIA in his stint in the PBA in 2015. The 33-year-old recently suited up for Leones de Ponce, a club team in Puerto Rico.
As for the second import, Alapag said they are hoping to get Balkman to play for his second season with the team. Balkman teamed up with Justin Brownlee last season as Alab Pilipinas captured the ABL crown.
Balkman recently played for San Miguel in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, leading the Beermen to a runner-up finish.
“We haven’t signed Balkman yet but we are hopeful he will be back,” said Alapag.
