ALAB Pilipinas will open the Asean Basketball League (ABL) season at home against Fil-German Christian Standhardinger and the reigning champion Hong Kong Eastern.
The match is set on November 19 at a venue to be announced, according to the league's social media accounts.
The Alab-Hong Kong match will be played two days after the formal opening of the new season on November 17 with a game pitting expansion squad Formosa Dragons against the Singapore Slingers at the Nanhai Gymnasium.
The Alab game marks Standhardinger's ABL debut on Philippine soil after playing for Gilas Pilipinas in the Jones Cup in Taioeiu, the Fiba Asia Cup in Lebanon and the Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia.
After his stint with the national team, Standhardinger signed up for Hong Kong Eastern, which will have last year's best world import Marcus Elliott back for another tour duty.
The HK-Alab face-off will also pit Standhardinger against one of his coaches at Gilas in Jimmy Alapag, who took over the coaching job of the league's lone Philippine-based ballclub.
Reigning local MVP Bobby Ray Parks, a teammate of Standhardinger in the Jones Cup and the Malaysia SEA Games, will also backstop the Alab lineup alongside former TNT import Ivan Johnson.
