ALAB Pilipinas goes for its second straight victory and its first in three tries over tormentor Singapore Slingers in the Asean Basketball League at the Alonte Sports Arena in Binan, Laguna on Friday.

Gametime is set at 8 p.m. with Alab looking to improve on its 3-2 win-loss record against the league-leading Slingers (7-1).

Alab Pilipinas is looking for its first win against the Slingers this season as they have met and lost twice against the Singapore squad, including a 71-66 defeat in the home opener last November 27.

The Philippine-based side also bowed to the Slingers, 71-68, in Singapore last December 18.

Alab coach Mac Cuan said the match is a great test for his team, which made changes in its roster by signing up new imports Sampson Carter and James Hughes after its loss to the Slingers.

“This is going to be a good gauge kung nasaan na kami at this stage of the season,” said Cuan.

Carter had 23 points, six rebounds, six assists, and two steals, while Hughes had 12 points and nine rebounds to spark Alab to an 86-77 win over the Kaohsiung Truth on Sunday.

Cuan, however, said it is still too early to tell whether Alab has finally turned things around after an inconsistent start.

“Hindi ko rin masasabi na nag-peak na kami to our potential. We are still adjusting. Bago ang import at ilang practice pa lang kami. Hindi pa sila in game shape. More or less, makikita na namin kung paano kami mag-mamatch-up against the number one team in the league," he said.

“We hope to defend home court,” added Cuan.

The Slingers will lean once again to imports Xavier Alexander and Justin Howard but reigning local MVP Wong Wei Long and Leon Kwek have also contributed in their first two games against Alab.
