RENALDO Balkman is in danger of missing San Miguel Alab Pilipinas' game against the Formosa Dreamers on Sunday in the 2019 Asean Basketball League (ABL).
The Puerto Rican reinforcement complained of headaches after a 101-96 victory over the Macau Black Bears on Friday and stayed under doctors' observation for more than 30 minutes.
Alab officials are fearing a possible concussion on Balkman, who got hit in the head by a driving Mikh McKinney in the third quarter that left him bloodied.
"We need to get him checked tonight. He took a pretty good shot to the head. We're going to side with caution and we'll see. We'll learn more tonight and see how he is," said coach Jimmy Alapag.
Despite the hit, Balkman came back and finished with a near-triple-double of 26 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists in the win.
"He wanted to get in," said Alapag. "If it was up to me, I would have sat him out, but that's who he is. He fights for these guys and he wants to defend what we have."
If Balkman is ruled out due to a concussion, he joins a growing injury list for Alab, which is already missing Caelan Tiongson (ankle) and Brandon Rosser (knee).
Lawrence Domingo also suffered a knee injury in the win over the Black Bears, although the the seriousness of the injury has yet to be ascertained.
"We are definitely a banged-up bunch. I almost put Eric (Menk) and Danny (Seigle) in the game but we didn't have a jersey for them," said Alapag smiling.
But with four games left before the playoffs, Alapag has no plan of slowing down.
"We're still going to go out there and fight. We already have half of our guys whose status are game-time decisions. So we'll do our best to get these guys healed up," he said.
