AJ MANDANI once again broke the hearts of Filipino fans as Singapore snapped Tanduay Alab Pilipinas’ three-game win streak with a 90-80 away victory on Wednesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Mandani scored 11 points of his 23 points in the final seven minutes as the Slingers outsteadied their hosts in the endgame to pull off an important road win in the Asean Basketball League (ABL).
Thanks to Mandani’s heroics, Singapore improved to 4-5 (win-loss) while dealing Alab Pilipinas its fourth loss in seven games before a near-packed crowd at the San Juan venue
Mandani once again played the hero’s role for Singapore, replicating his performance in the Slingers' first game against Alab last November at the Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex.
Chris Charles had 29 points and 15 rebounds for the Slingers, who avenged their home loss to the Alab Pilipinas on Sunday at the OCBC Arena.
The Fil-Canadian Mandani scored seven points in a 15-5 run to start the fourth period that opened a 79-69 lead for the Slingers.
Mandani hit a free throw with 1:52 left in the fourth after Alab coach Jimmy Alapag was called for a technical foul for a contesting a non-call on what he thought was a travelling violation by Xavier Alexander that led to a basket.
Mandani then added the dagger three with 1:03 left in the fourth for an 88-76 lead.
Renaldo Balkman had 24 points and 12 rebounds to lead Alab while Justin Brownlee had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Bobby Ray Parks added 16 for the hosts.
