NOT only is Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 eyeing a spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, organizers also have their sights set on breaking the record for most number of players partaking in 3x3 basketball.
"We want to have the world-record for most number of kids playing 3x3 basketball," said Bounty Agro Ventures Inc. sports director Mel Macasaquit on Friday.
National team backer Chooks-to-Go, in cooperation with the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), is planning to hold the event from January 11 to 13 at The Sisters of Mary Girlstown in Talisay City, Cebu where they are expecting over 5,000 participants to join in the bid.
The current Guiness World Record stands at 7,296 participants which was done during the Spokane Hoopfest 2009 in Spokane, Washington.
Not only would this be for a bigger cause, Macasaquit also sees this as a chance for the Philippines to boost points in the 3x3 world rankings, with every participant set to register everyone to the Play Fiba 3x3 App.
The country currently sits at 47th, behind regional foes Indonesia and Malaysia.
"After the event, we will declare how many points we have accumulated. We have a feeling that this activity alone will result to a year-worth of points," said Macasaquit, who also shared that incoming University of the Philippines forward Kobe Paras will grace the said event.
Chooks-to-Go presdient Ronald Mascarinas is also primed to donate an unspecified amount to The Sisters of Mary Girlstown during the event proper.
