HOOPS war continues to rage in the countryside as city champions all over the nation vie for eight remaining provincial spots leading up to the 2015 Seaoil-NBTC National High School Championships on March 6-8 at the Meralco gym.
A total of 14 provincial berths are up for grabs while four slots are reserved for qualifiers from the National Capital Region in the event held in partnership with the MVP Sports Foundation and which serves as the official grassroots development program of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP).
Seeded into the national finals are Assumption College from Davao, Southern City College from Zamboanga, St. John’s Institute from Bacolod, St. Roberts International School from Iloilo, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu and Sacred Heart of Jesus Montessori from Cagayan de Oro.
Recently, defending MMBL champion Chiang Kai Shek College clinched the first NCR slot after ruling the 32nd Metro Manila Basketball League Championship at the San Beda gym in Mendiola.
Joining the CKSC Blue Dragons are the San Beda Red Cubs, San Beda Team B, and the winner of the UAAP juniors title clash between the National University Bullpups and the Ateneo Blue Eaglets.
“We are truly excited with the forthcoming national finals where we again hope to witness the future of Philippine basketball as they showcase their young talent and skills,” said NBTC program director Eric Altamirano.
Still in contention are Canossa Academy of Lipa, Maryhill College from Lucena, Laguna College of Business & Arts, Rex Dei Academy from Sta. Rosa, Laguna, University of Perpetual Help System from Binan, Tiwalan Academy from San Pedro, Naga City Montessori, Batobalani National High School from Daet, St. Agnes Academy from Legazpi, The Lewis College from Sorsogon, St. Francis of Assisi from North Cavite, University of Perpetual Help Molino from Northeast Cavite, Christian Values School from Northwest Cavite, Lyceum from South Cavite, Noblesse International School from Angeles, University. of Cordilleras from Baguio, La Finn’s Scholastica from La Union, Olongapo City National High School, Castillejos National High School from Zambales, Fr. Saturnino Urios University from Butuan, says Bethel Baptist Christian Academy from Bukidnon and Iligan City National Hight School
The National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) aims to identify, prepare and develop young male student-athletes.
Its objectives include creating learning environment opportunities for players to demonstrate and enhance both their individual and team skills; serving as a pathway for the players and coaches to move to a higher level competition; developing skills, building character and raising leaders; and promoting the values of leadership, commitment to excellence, right attitude and discipline among the young students through the sports.
