A SAN Miguel side without an import and three key players proved no match against Suwon KT Sonicboom, 94-81, and ended its East Asia Super League (EASL) Home and Away Season 2 campaign without a win Wednesday night in South Korea.
The absence of June Mar Fajardo, CJ Perez, and Jericho Cruz, along with playing an all-Filipino crew obviously took its toll on the Beermen, who immediately went down right on the first volley of the Sonicboom’s scoring run and trailed, 37-12.
Jeron Teng had a team-high 17 points to show the way for San Miguel, which missed out on Fajardo and Perez due to Gilas Pilipinas duties and Cruz, who is playing for the Guam men’s national team in the FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers.
The Beermen also opted not to field in any of their imports in Torren Jones and Malik Pope following their disastrous campaign in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup that saw the franchise fail to advance in the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
San Miguel finished with a 0-6 record for last in Group A. It’s also the only team which failed to register a single win for the season.
The Sonicboom ended with an even 3-3 slate as import Rayshaun Hammonds led the Korean Basketball League side with 19 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
Ironically, Filipino Asian import JD Cagulangan didn’t suit up for the Suwon KT.
