DEFENDING champion Ateneo reached the UAAP baseball finals for the fourth straight year after defeating National University, 9-4, on Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
Unbeaten in seven starts, Ateneo can clinch a twice-to-beat incentive in the finals by sweeping its last three matches in the eliminations.
An Inigo Untalan cleared the bases with a double to deep left, giving Ateneo a 6-0 lead.
La Salle scored seven runs in the third inning in a 13-0 win over University of Santo Tomas to boost its bid for a finals berth.
The Green Batters improved to 5-2, two games ahead of the UP Fighting Maroons (3-4) in the race for the second championship berth.
Meanwhile Adamson University ripped University of the Philippines, 8-1, for only its second win of the season.
The Falcons forged a three-way tie for fourth place with the Growling Tigers and the Bulldogs at 2-5.
