Philippines bounces back with big win over Sri Lanka in Asian Baseball Championship

THE Philippines beat Sri Lanka, 8-5, on Tuesday night to notch its first win in the 28th Baseball Federation of Asia - Asian Baseball Championship in New Taipei City, Taiwan.

Jonash Ponce blasted a game-tying three-run home run in the third inning before a Carlos Munoz sacrifice fly in the fourth gave the Philippines a 4-3 edge.

Sri Lanka tied the match in the eighth inning at 5 but the Philippines went on a three-run burst at the bottom of the inning to pull away again.

The Philippines evened its record to 1-1 and eyes a place in the semifinals when it takes on powerhouse Korea in their final game of Group A play.

Korea lost to Chinese Taipei, 3-2, to occupy a share of second place.
