THE Philippine women's baseball team struck bronze in its first-ever international tournament after beating host China, 11-1, in the 2nd BFA Women's Baseball Asian Cup on Friday at the Panda Stadium in Guangdong.
"This is our first international competition and we were able to finish third out of eight teams. Maraming salamat sa mga sumuporta para sa panalong ito," said Philippines coach Egay Delos Reyes in a video posted on his Facebook page.
The Philippines made it to the Super Round of the eight-team tilt after finishing second in Group B where it beat Hong Kong and South Korea before losing to Chinese Taipei.
In the semifinals, the Filipinas were able to split their matches against China and Japan, defeating the former 6-2 while succumbing to the latter, 18-2.
The Philippine team is composed of Elaine Bacarisas, Wenchi Bacarisas, Diana Jane Balderama, Maria Christine Bautista, Whell Camral, Ivy Capistrano, Mharnie de la Cruz, Nicole Estante, Lealyn Guevarra, Jojielyn Lim, Erika Olfato, Clariz Palma, Mery Ann Ramos, Charlotte Sales, Edna Mae Severino, Jennifer Singh, Alaiza Talisik, Esmeralda Tayag, Sheirylou Valenzuela and Velasco Veronica.
