THE Philippine national baseball team defeated the Baseball Philippines selection team, 6-0, on Sunday in the Fil-Am Friendship Day at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
Charlie Labrador led the Nationals as he struck out six batters in a five-inning effort. His teammates scattered 10 hits to roll past the Baseball Philippines selection.
Jonash Ponce drilled a two-run single to score Fongs Rances and Francis Candela at the top of the first inning.
Saxon Omandac and Rommel Roja came through with run-scoring hits in the sixth as the Nationals pulled away.
The Baseball Philippines selection reached third base just once as relievers Ernesto Binarao and Jonjon Robles finished the job for the national team.
Assistant coach Wilfredo Hidalgo said the exhibition game was a good tune-up for the national squad.
“Since several of the national players are also coaches, they were able to adjust to the game,” said Hidalgo.
United States Ambassador to the Philippines Harry K. Thomas threw the ceremonial pitch.
