THE Philippines ruled the Baseball Federation of Asia (BFA) Asia Cup after sweeping their assignments in the tournament held in Hong Kong.
The Pinoy batters beat Hong Kong, 7-5, to go 4-0 in the tournament. Thailand finished second, while Hong Kong placed third in the five-nation tournament.
Francis Gesmundo took the Most Valuable Player award to highlight the country’s domination in the tournament.
Also winning individual awards were Jon Jon Robles (Pitcher with Best won-loss average), and Erwin Bosito (Most Stolen Bases), while making the All-Star team were Robles (Best Pitcher), Mark Manaig (Best Catcher), Juan Macasaet (Best Third Baseman), and Adriane Bernardo (Best Shortstop).
The Philippines edged Thailand, 10-6, after a nine-run seventh inning with Diego Lozano hitting a home run in that frame.
The national baseball squad also thrashed Singapore, 12-1, and beat Indonesia, 5-2, heading into the final match of the tournament against the hosts.
