ATENEO ace Paulo Macasaet remained unsatisfied despite his near-flawless performance from the mound in Game One of the UAAP Season 79 baseball finals.
Pitching for seven innings, Macasaet limited UST to only two runs and five hits in the 9-2 Game One victory. But he was far from satisfied after having to wriggle out of a number of jams during the game.
“Not today,” said the third-year pitcher. “Kasi parang every inning, after the first, nagkakaroon ng jam. Fortunately, nakakatakas ako.”
Asked what he needs to improve for the next game, Macasaet, last year’s Best Pitcher, pointed that he needs to avoid close calls, mentioning the seventh inning where UST scored a run and had runners on second and third base before getting out of the jam.
“I just want to do my best to avoid this kind of inning, kasi every inning nagkakaroon ng ganoon eh. At least, mababa ang pitch count ko, kinda ironic. I hope to keep that down din and more clean innings like one, two, three.”
Macasaet was pleased, though, with his conditioning as he lasted seven innings.
“The entire year, hindi nagkakasakit yung katawan ko. Weird din eh. It’s the first time I felt this way na I don’t feel any pain in my arm. I don’t feel any pain in my body also. I guess it’s the way I recovered also," he said.
“Last year, I didn’t really dedicate my time to using the gym. Marami din akong time, nagpupuyat for studies. This year I got to manage my time,” added Macasaet.
