DEFENDING champion National University and University of Santo Tomas posted abbreviated wins to remain unscathed after two games in the UAAP Season 75 baseball tournament on Thursday at the Rizal Ballpark.
The Bulldogs needed only five innings to put away Adamson, 15-0, while the Growling Tigers walloped University of the Philippines, 12-2, in seven innings.
Last season’s runner-up Ateneo later joined NU and UST in the early lead as the Blue Eagles bucked an early two-run deficit to turn back La Salle, 15-7.
The Falcons, the Fighting Maroons and the Green Archers dropped to their second consecutive loss.
Meanwhile, reigning men’s champion La Salle begins its title-retention bid as the Season 75 lawn tennis competitions open this weekend at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
The Green Archers face Ateneo on Saturday at 9 a.m. and returns the next day to face University of the East also at 9 a.m.
Also lined up are the men’s opening day matches between NU and UE at 9 a.m., followed by the UST-UP duel at 12 noon.
The Lady Bulldogs will make their debut in the women’s division against last year’s second placer Lady Archers also at 12 noon.
Scheduled matches in the men’s division on Sunday morning are NU against UST and Ateneo versus UP. The Lady Maroons and the Lady Eagles collide in the lone women’s match.
Also this weekend, Far Eastern University starts its bid for a seventh straight men’s chess crown at the FEU Auditorium. La Salle is bidding for another women’s tiara.
