PHILAB pelted four runs in the sixth and ninth frames to trounce Philippine Air Force, 10-3, and tab the gold medal in the Philippine National Games baseball competitions at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium Saturday.
Earl Ryan Del Socorro and Rommel Roja had two-run hits in the sixth, while Joseph Orillana slammed the tournament’s only home run in the ninth to seal the victory for Philab.
On its way to the crown, Philab swept the double-elimination format tournament following victories over Air Force (3-0), La Salle Canlubang (12-0), National University (13-0), and Ateneo (8-3).
Air Force looked poised in its return match against the champion after surviving the one-loss side of the bracket the moment it tied the match at 2-2 in the fourth inning.
But Philab, reinforced by national team players, proved too much for the opposition.
Orillana even hit a three-run home run to right field off Edmer Del Socorro to complete the rout.
