Adamson closes in on UAAP baseball title with seven-inning demolition of La Salle

A MIGHTY four-hit, four run rampage in the first inning carried Adamson University to an abbreviated seven-inning 14-4 rout of favored La Salle on Tuesday in the opener of the best-of-three title series for the UAAP men’s baseball championship at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Third baseman Gerald Riparip, pitcher Jerome Yenson, rightfielder Lester Carandang and first baseman Raymond Matic roughed up Archers starter Francis Gesmundo with a single each in Adamson’s strongest start this season.

Adamson had 14 hits off four pitchers La Salle coach Joseph Orellana fielded, starter Gesmundo with nine in 3 and 2/3 innings.

Riparip went 3-for-5 with three runs batted-in as the Falcons closed in on their 12th UAAP title.

Yenson, recruited from Nueva Ecija by manager Orlando Binarao, worked five innings, yielding four hits, striking out four, with six walks and hitting one with a pitch, before giving way to Carandang to finish the game.
