DE LA Salle whipped University of Santo Tomas, 14-4, on Sunday to remain on top of the standings in the UAAP Season 76 baseball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
Carlos Laurel and Edward Flores had two-run hits in the third as the Green Archers pelted the Tigers with eight runs in the same inning to wrest the lead for good.
The game ended in the seventh due to the mercy rule with the Green Archers scoring five more runs.
The Green Archers are undefeated in three outings.
Meanwhile, defending champion Ateneo got back to its winning ways with a 14-7 victory over University of the Philippines.
Coming off a 6-13 loss to La Salle last week, the Blue Eagles won for the second time in three outings after taking the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Trailing 3-5 midway, Felipe Remollo scored on a throwing error and Adrian Bernardo pushed Leandro Banzon home on a single to tie the game. Dio Remollo hit another base hit to score Bernardo for a 6-3 lead.
Ateneo’s lead swelled with the Blue Eagles scoring five runs in the next two innings.
UP, which fell to its third straight defeat, couldn’t hang on after a torrid start that included a three-run binge at the top of the second inning. Ateneo tied the game at the bottom half of the second but UP chalked one run each in the third and fourth frames for a 5-3 lead.
