JORDAN Brand has released a moving video on Monday (Tuesday, Manila time) that pays homage to Derek Jeter, one of the company’s longest tenured athletes.
Posted on Youtube, the new “RE2PECT” video is a star-studded display of athletes, coaches and pop culture icons tipping their hats to the 40-year old New York Yankee, who will retire this year after 20 seasons in the MLB.
“No matter what hat you wear, tip it to The Captain. #RE2PECT”, said the message on the popular video-sharing site. A link sent the viewer to a Nike tribute page with related baseball merchandise.
Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods and Carmelo Anthony are among the sports celebrities paying tribute to the Yankees great. Also in the ad giving their respects were Phil Jackson, Jeanie Buss, Billy Crystal and former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani.
Another highlight of the ad was a display of bitter rivals from the Boston Red Sox and the New York Mets offering their grudging respect to the Yankee captain.
In 1999, Jeter became the first baseball player to endorse the Jordan Brand. According to Nike, he has 12 signature cleats — more shoes than any other athlete besides Jordan himself.
The commercial will make its television debut on Tuesday night (Wednesday, Manila time), during Jeter’s final All-Star Game.
