Itakura Parts Philippines Corporation (IPPC) edged La Salle, 9-8, on Tuesday to claim the Philippine National Games baseball title at the Rizal Memorial baseball stadium.
"Masaya kasi naglalaro ako hindi naman para sa akin. Naglalaro ako para sa kuya ko kasi patay siya hindi ako umuwi para lang dito sa game. So siya inspirasyon ko," said Malig.
La Salle trimmed the deficit to one after after Carlos Muñoz scored a run in the eighth, then Jonathan Park pitched a scoreless ninth.
But IPPC's Marvin Malig was steady in the endgame and fanned Paolo Salud for the final out.
Malig said he just told his teammates to hold on as La Salle tried to make a late run.
"Kaya natin 'to. 'Wag tayong bibigay. Laban tayo."
The IPPC Hawks retained the multi-titled Philab Ballbusters squad that had also earlier won the PNG.
