HONG Kong defeated University of Santo Tomas, 11-4, on Tuesday at the close of the two-day, three-match goodwill baseball games at the Rizal Memorial ballpark organized by the Philippine Amateur Baseball Association in cooperation with the Hong Kong Baseball Association.
The Hong Kong national team lost to UAAP champion Ateneo, 10-4, and to La Salle, 9-3, on Monday before finally pulling off the win against UST.
PABA secretary general Chito Loyzaga said the goodwill matches, held in partnership with the Philippine Sports Commission and the UAAP, were held to also jumpstart the formation of the national team that will compete in the 28th Baseball Federation of Asia (BFA) Asian Baseball Championship in New Taipei City in September.
“Nag-tetraining din sila (Hong Kong) and they came here to train and perform. This is a good experience for the young players lalo na dito sa mga UAAP teams. It could give us an idea also on the level of competition. It will also give us an opportunity to prepare well for the national team,” Loyzaga said.
