Dumaguete, Cebu nines eye twice-to-beat edge

    Jun 9, 2012

Dumaguete and Cebu, already assured of semifinal berths, battle for the top spot on Sunday in Baseball Philippines Series 9 at the Clark Freeport Zone’s Parade Grounds in Pampanga.

    The Uni-bikers-Dolphins match-up is set at 9 a.m.

Dumaguete and Cebu have identical 9-3 win-loss records and are looking to secure their places in the top two and the twice-to-beat advantage in the semifinals.

The Uni-bikers have been on a roll thanks to their offense led by Dio Remollo, who again hit a home run in their 12-5 whipping of Taguig last week.

The Dolphins swept their assignments last week with a 9-7 win over Alabang and a 16-4 rout of Batangas.

Three-time defending champion Manila, meanwhile, is hoping to catch up with the leaders when the Sharks face the Taguig Patriots at 9 a.m.

The Sharks, in third spot with a 7-5 record, are coming off a 0-6 loss to Dumaguete.

The Alabang Tigers, in fourth spot with a 5-7 slate, try to inch closer to a semifinal berth when they take on the Batangas Bulls also at 9 a.m.

Other games pit Dumaguete against Batangas, Cebu versus Taguig, and Manila opposite Alabang.
