NATIONAL University started its title retention bid with a close 3-2 decision over University of the Philippines in the UAAP Season 75 baseball tournament over the weekend at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
Last season’s runner-up Ateneo scored a 15-3 victory over Adamson, while University of Santo Tomas clipped La Salle, 9-4.
At the resumption of softball competitions after a long Christmas break, the Lady Falcons moved closer to a first-round sweep with an 8-1 crushing of the Lady Maroons.
Adamson, which boasts of several players from the Manila team that won the World Series Big League crown in Kalamazoo, Michigan last year, remained unbeaten in five starts.
The Tigresses downed the Lady Archers, 11-2, in five innings to remain in second place at 3-1.
University of the East drubbed NU, 7-2, to tie its victims in fourth spot at 2-2.
La Salle dropped to 2-3 in fifth place, while the Lady Maroons and idle Lady Eagles hold 1-3 and 0-4 cards, respectively.
Tennis action begins this weekend at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center, while chess will be held at the Far Eastern University auditorium.
