ATENEO and University of the East start their defense of their titles in the UAAP men’s and women’s badminton competitions on Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall.
Powered by Toby Gadi, the Blue Eagles won the men’s badminton crown by defeating the Jofer Escueta-led National University in an exciting championship match last year.
The Lady Warriors, with tournament MVP Fatima Cruz, claimed the women’s tiara by defeating the Lady Eagles in the finale.
NU will host the badminton competition for the second straight season.
Meanwhile, in beach volleyball, University of Santo Tomas and Far Eastern University stake their women’s and men’s crowns, respectively, starting on August 25 at the UE Caloocan sand court.
The Tigresses claimed their first-ever women’s beach volleyball crown in Season 74 as Maru Banaticla and Judy Caballejo defeated the Lady Eagles pair of Alyssa Valdez and Bea Tan in the finals.
Bannered by Arvin Avila, the Tamaraws completed their season undefeated by beating the Growling Tigers in the finals.
Other first semester events scheduled are swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and judo.
