Toby Gadi, Mark Alcala head cast in P1.5 million national badminton tournament
Mark Alcala, winner of the National Open, tries to end the year with a bang.

MANY-time Open champion Toby Gadi and Singapore Youth International champion Mark Alcala head the cast in the men’s singles event of the P1.5 million Bingo Bonanza National Open badminton tournament starting on Dec. 11 at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Center.

The men’s singles event offers a P120,000 top prize. Also on tap are competitions in the ladies singles, the men’s and ladies doubles and the mixed doubles.

The list of players will be posted on Dec. 1 with the draw set on Dec. 5. The schedule will be released on Dec. 7 while the team managers, coaches and players meeting will be held Dec. 9.

The 15-year-old Alcala, who also topped the National Open in July and ruled the Under-19 section in the recent Karyn Velez Memorial Youth Badminton Championships, is currently vying for honors along with fellow national team mainstays in the Axiata Cup in Jakarta.

Others playing in the men’s singles event of the tournament sponsored by Bingo Bonanza and sanctioned by the Philippine Badminton Association are Jayson Oba-ob, R-Jay Ormilla, Leenard Pedrosa, Wilson Lopez II, Frell Gabuenlo, Alexis Geverjuan and Emilio Mangubat Jr.
