National U, La Salle stay unscathed and secure semifinal berths in UAAP badminton

NATIONAL University and La Salle clinched the first two semifinal berths in the men's division, even as women's leader University of the Philippines booked a spot in the next round of the UAAP Season 77 badminton tournament.

The Bulldogs and the Green Archers scored 5-0 wins over University of the East and University of Santo Tomas, respectively, at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall on Sunday, to remain unscathed in five outings.

One of the biggest surprises of the competition, the Lady Maroons nipped the Tigresses, 3-2, to also stay unbeaten in five starts.

Peter Gabriel Magnaye led the way for NU, while Gerald Sibayan played his usual best for La Salle.

Jessie Francisco survived in the deciding singles match to bail out UP, as UST gave a huge fight.

In other men's ties, reigning MVP Patrick Natividad starred in Ateneo's 5-0 blanking of Adamson, while UP whipped Far Eastern University, 5-0.

The Blue Eagles remain in third place with a 4-1 card to zero in on a semis berth, while the Fighting Maroons tied the Growling Tigers in fourth spot at 2-3.  The Falcons and the Red Warriors dropped to 1-4, while the Tamaraws remained winless in five matches.

Women's titleholder Ateneo also closed in a spot in the semifinals with a 4-1 win over Adamson for a 4-1 slate.

La Salle won over NU, 3-2, while FEU tripped UE, 4-1, to tie UST in third to fifth spots at 3-2.

The Lady Falcons and the Lady Warriors are tied at 1-4, while the Lady Bulldogs bring up the rear at 0-5.
