NATIONAL juniors teammates Sarah Joy Barredo and Mariya Anghela Sevilla scored straight set wins in the semifinals on Sunday to set up a title match in the PBA-Victor Ming Ramos Youth Cup Badminton Championships at the PSC Badminton Hall of the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
Top seed Barredo turned back Qian Xi Orillaneda, 21-19, 21-8, while No. 2 Sevilla defeated Airah Albo, 22-20, 21-11, in the girls’ Under-15.
Barredo also made it to the finals of the Under-17 category with a 21-13, 21-17 win over Aldreen Concepcion. She will battle the winner of the Sevilla-Albo semis clash in the event held in honor of Philippine Badminton Association honorary chair and former First Lady Amelita “Ming” Ramos.
Katrina Togado of St. Scholastica’s Bacolod held off Mikaela de Guzman, 21-18, 21-18, and Susmita Ramos of Trinity Christian/ETC dominated Kyla Cruz, 31-8, 21-13, to advance to the finals of the girls’ Under-13 class.
Yuan Tan defeated Enrico Salapong, 21-18, 23-21, to arrange a title duel with John Carlos Sanchez, who routed Jhustine Dionisio, 21-8, 21-6, in the boys’ Under-11 category.
Top seed Earl Baes rolled into the finals of the boys’ Under-13 class with a 21-15, 21-14 victory over Jason Vanzuela. He will dispute the crown with Arthur Salvado, who clipped Daniel Anglo, 21-17, 21-14, in the event backed by Victor, exclusively distributed by PCOME Industrial Sales Inc.
Joaquin Pangilinan beat Daniel Pantanosas, 14-21, 21-19, 21-11, to gain a finals berth in the boys’ Under-15 against the winner of the Juan Nadong-Joaquin David semis match.
Mark Alcala moved into the finals of the boys’ Under-17 division with a 21-11, 21-7 romp over Jerickson Oba-ob. He will next face Wilson Lopez, who subdued Emilio Mangubat Jr., 21-17, 21-14.
